The End of Summer

Every summer in the high mountains of central Japan there is a single day when the ascent into summer is complete and the scene and actors begin their transition into fall. The soft chirp of crickets begin to replace the cacophony of cicada; streams and waterfalls become chill to the touch, and the atmosphere takes on a sense of completion as so much seasonal life prepares to depart forever. That day was yesterday.
