Remembering Japan

My last hike before leaving Japan was to visit and say goodbye to this utterly remote and forgotten abandoned farm. This video records my first discovery of the place, which eluded my attention for over a decade. In the twelve years I explored this valley I never saw or met a single human being, though I found many abandoned homes, farms, shrines and graves which testify to it’s past habitation. It’s the place I go back to when I remember Japan. It’s the place I thought of this morning as I felt the familiar longing tug to once more explore alone in wild places.
